“Giving Back To Those Who Give To Us…”
The Community Shop, previously known as the “Shop Group,” was one of the original six Member Groups of the Castaways Thrift Store. Shop incorporated as a stand alone nonprofit organization within Castaways in 2023. For several decades Shop has been the only group that awarded monetary grants to the community under the “Castaways” banner. Designated church donations were processed by church volunteers and funds were transmitted monthly to the respective churches.
In mid 2024 Shop was abruptly displaced. Another location was needed, if Shop was to continue its long tradition of turning your designated donations into monetary grants for qualified Aransas County nonprofit organizations.
In late 2024 we were able to secure another building, which would require significant renovations, before we could open for business. Since that time we have been diligently working on the building, amid bureaucratic requirements, plan changes, worker shortages and delays in obtaining supplies. We believe we are finally turning a corner, and hope to have an occupancy certificate in a few weeks. We should be opening for business in the second quarter.
BECAUSE OF YOUR SUPPORT, the generosity of local small businesses, contractors and vendors, and the dedication of many longstanding volunteers, the Community Shop will again, resume its mission of giving back to the community that gives to us.
